Share of social care grants unveiled

The government has revealed councils’ share of the £650m pledged for social care next year.

The £240m “winter pressures grant” for adult social care in 2018-19, which the government has said should be spent on alleviating pressures on the NHS, is ringfenced, distributed using the adult social care relative needs formula and pooled into the better care fund.

The £410m ‘social care grant’ for either adult of children’s social care services in 2019-20 will be distributed using the same formula and is not ringfenced, with no conditions or reporting requirements.

**Restructures:
1) On 1 April 2019 Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council will be established, comprising the areas of Bournemouth BC, Christchurch BC & Borough of Poole Council.
2) On 1 April 2019 Dorset Council will be established, comprising the areas of East Dorset DC, North Dorset DC, Purbeck DC, West Dorset DC and Weymouth & Portland BC.
