Rosalind Mitchell, the transsexual Bristol City Council member, has been thrown out of a Labour group women's meeting.

In a BBC2 documentary due to be screened this week, Ms Mitchell, who has undergone hormone treatment but is waiting for surgery, said she expected hostility from the public rather than colleagues.

Labour's regional secretary Graham Manuel said: 'the question is whether that meeting regarded Rosalind a man or woman and I would suggest the majority opinion was she was still David Spry.'
