Liverpool City Council's new chief executive is expected to announce details of a major shake-up next week, according to the Daily Post (5 October, p7).

The Post said David Henshaw had already spelled out that the number of directorates will be reduced from eight to five in what is expected to be the authority's biggest ever shake-up.

Two directors, John Liddle (planning and transportation) and Frank Cogley (education), have already taken early retirement.

Existing directors will have to reapply to head the newly created directorates if they wish to remain with the council.
