Unison today said it was extremely concerned and wanted an early meeting with the Shetland Islands Council to seek a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies, in the discussion over the proposed job losses (see LGCnet ).

'Unison is extremely concerned about the size of these proposed job losses,' said regional officer Dougie Black.

'We do not think the council can lose this many staff without a consequent affect on island services.

'Whilst we have had initial discussions with the council we will now be seeking an urgent meeting with them to ask for the reason for such a massive investment loss. We will also be demanding that the council commits itself to no compulsory redundancies.'
