Single status D-day at Orkney Islands

  • Comment
Staff at Orkney Islands Council had until midday today to accept the authority’s new single status contracts ahead of statutory redundancy notices being sent out.

Before the deadline, the most up-to-date figures indicated that 921 of the council’s 1,443 full-time staff and 68 of its 105 temporary staff had accepted the new contracts.

A council spokeswoman said that termination letters, accompanied by the offer of new contracts, would be sent out to all of the authority’s employees who had not decided to accept new terms and conditions.

Alex McLuckie, GMB senior organiser for Scotland, said that that the union would be supporting its members at who did not accept the new contracts in any way it could.
