Scottish secretary Michael Forsyth has announced his decision to confirm a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of land required for a replacement for Andover Primary School, Brechin.

Confirmation of the order should allow the council to proceed with the next steps involved in acquiring the land on which they propose to build the new school.

In announcing his decision Mr Forsyth said:

'I am pleased to be able to confirm this order. I am sure the council will now wish to make as rapid progress as possible in acquiring the site and getting on with the construction of the new school.'

The Scottish Office education and industry department is sending the formal confirmation letter to Angus Council today.
