Slough BC is facing strike action over its decision to outsource its street cleansing and highways services.

T&G members who work as street cleaners and highways workers at the council said they would carry through the threat of strike action planned for today if the council did not back down over its plans.

T&G regional industrial organiser Bob Middleton said: 'Our members do not wish to take strike action but have been forced to do so because the council is not prepared to change its mind about contracting out these essential services.'

A council spokeswoman said: 'Negotiation with the union is ongoing.'
