SMALL FIRMS DRIVEN OUT OF CCT MARKET

Property consultancy firms are losing out to large multi-disciplinary companies in the public sector market, reported Contract Journal (23 April, p3).

A report from the College of Estate Management shows that, while 76% of firms in a sector are small, it is the large companies winning public sector contracts.

The report indicates that local authorities find it easier and cheaper to put large multi-disciplinary packages out to tender because their in-house teams may not be able to survive if they were only to win smaller contracts.

The whole process of CCT needs to be reviewed to allow more flexibility, the report says, but it warns that Labour's proposals to replace CCT were not that different from the current arrangements.
