A consultants' report warns councillors they will have to spend more than £1m to combat crime in Aylesbury town centre, reports BBC Three Counties.

A sum of £1.1m would pay for closed circuit television cameras, but to be effective they would have to be introduced in conjunction with other measures such as improved lighting on streets and car parks.

Because Aylesbury Vale DC has set aside a budget of only £50,000 the scheme to improve town centre security will be phased in. Car parks will be the first locations for CCTV cameras.
