Teachers at a school praised by education secretary Gillian Shephard for appearing as 'though they had stepped out of the pages of Vogue', say their 'smart appearance' has more to do with Marks & Spencer.

Mrs Shephard commented on her visit to the Earlham School in Norwich during an appearance on BBC's On the Record.

The Times reports (p7) that the new found fame of Earlham may lead to rivalry with other schools in Norfolk. Chair of the county council's education committee George Turner said: 'I can see there being a fashion competition now between teachers over the next few weeks.'
