Nine out of ten solicitors moving to local government from private practice strongly prefer local government according to a recent survey from LGG (The Law Society's local government group).
'We are now setting up many more courses suitable for solicitors transferring into local government, in order to familiarise them with the local authority world,' said Peter Godber, LGG's director of training.
LGG's survey reveals that local authority solicitors enjoy the emphasis in local government on serving the local community rather than generating fees for a firm of solicitors. They also expressed appreciation of good employment conditions with working hours - much better suited to those with young families.
Since 1985 LGG has helped over 40,000 local authority practitioners attending over 2000 training events. LGG & ACSeS provide legal updates on all aspects of local authority law*, new legislation courses, basics and advanced courses, management courses, skills training and tailor made in-house courses.
* Planning law, Housing law, Human Rights, Licensing Law, Prosecutions, Advocacy and Litigation, Child care/Community Care Law, Highways Law, Local Government Act.
