SOLIHULL HEALTH PLANS BLOCKED

Plans to stop Solihull's health services being taken over by Birmingham have suffered a setback after being dismissed as 'cumbersome and unwieldy' by senior Coventry City councillors, The Birmingham Post reports (p5).

The plan proposed last week by Solihull Council involves linking the borough with Coventry and Warwickshire in a new 'Forest of Arden' health authority.

The Solihull councillors are asking for their area to be a test-case for a new style of NHS organisation to avoid their Authority being merged with Birmingham Authority which already performs much of Solihill's administration.
