Solihull MBC today joined 130 local authorities from 27 European countries in signing the Aalborg Charter which recognises the aim to work towards sustainability and the implementation of a local environmental action plan (Agenda 21).

Agenda 21 is an outcome of the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio involving a continuous process of developing local policies to safeguard the environment and the building of partnerships between the council and other groups within the borough.

Sustainability would ensure that we leave the planet in no worse a condition than we find it for future generations, the council said in a statement.
