Somerset CC will not be able to fund further legal challenges to an anti hunt ruling by itself, the Western Morning News reports (p5).

The county lost the right to stop stag hounds hunting on common land in the county when the court of appeal ruled against it.

Now council leader Chris Clarke has told the paper that other counties will have to help with funding a further possible challenge to the House of Lords.

He said: 'We have done our bit. If others want us to go to the highest court in the land to gain outright victory, they must meet the bill.'

Contributions to legal costs so far from other counties have helped Somerset defray some of the expense but they are still left with a sizeable bill, the paper reports.
