Parents unimpressed by 'progressive' teaching methods introduced by a new headmistress have withdrawn their children from a south Wales school, The Western Mail reported (2 Sep, p1).

Officials from South Glamorgan CC were appointed to review the teaching of maths and English. A sub-committee of three governors recommended ways to improve communications through a partnership between governors, parents and the education authority.

Hugh Knight, assistant education director, said positive steps had been taken by the governors and the education authority to work with the parents, The Western Mail reports. He said:

'There is a continuing exchange between parents and the governors and we would hope for support from the parents this term.'
