Colin Robb, depute provost of South Lanarkshire council, has resigned over a dispute about advance expenses claims involving thousands of pounds of taxpayers money, reports the Scotsman (p3).

Mr Robb's resignation follows the result of the final external audit of the now defunct East Kilbride DC. The paper says it emerged that Mr Rob, who was leader of the council, claimed around£4,000 'advance' expenses for meetings before he had attended them.

Labour leaders ordered an investigation and it is believed Mr Robb was told that he was expected to resign or face action from the Labour group.
