A group of security guards have won their six-year legal fight for compensation from South Tyneside MBC, which has agreed to pay out more than£100,000, reported The Journal (7 Nov).

Twenty-two guards who work up to 100-hour weeks for the council won the right to a higher rate of pay for working overtime, following an industrial tribunal hearing last year.

However, 14 of the men rejected an offer worth around£74,000. Security guard Dave Littlewood, who has worked for the council for six years, said: 'This is a fantastic victory for all the men.'
