SPORTS DEVELOPMENT OR GRANT DILEMMA FOR DENBIGHSHIRE CC

Denbighshire CC councillors have to decide today whether to give their own authority permission for a controversial sports development, or risk losing a£125,000 grant, reports the Daily Post (p13).

There are local objections to the proposed building of a£250,000 all weather pitch at Denbigh leisure centre.

One resident realised, when work began on the development last year that it was being laid at a different angle to that originally agreed.

When the revised planning application was lodged councillors imposed more stringent restrictions on the hours of use of the pitch and floodlighting.

But the changes mean that the scheme would no longer meet the criteria for community use and competitive club matches set down by Sportlot for its£125,000 grant.

Members of the council's planning sub-committee are being told they must ignore the financial implications of the situation, says the paper.
