The allowance within standard spending assessments for day visitors is designed to reflect the impact on services provided by local authorities of visitors to their area, reported environment minister, Tony Baldry in a written answer (9 Dec, col 366).
Services deemed to be affected include street cleaning, refuse collection and environmental health.
'It is not the intention that the allowance should compensate authorities directly for the cost of any recreational facilities which they choose to provide in the areas of other facilities,' said Mr Baldry.
As a result of the inclusion of the day visitors in the formula, Stockport MBC would receive £0.264m in the assessments for 1994-95, reported Mr Baldry.
