Local government minister David Curry has announced that grant's to offset the effects of last years SSA review are to be extended for another year.

Mr Curry said the Standard Spending Assessment Reduction Grant extension would prevent some authorities facing significant reductions in resources.

The minister said that authorities have now had more time to bring spending into line with their SSA and 'the scheme may therefore not need to be as generous as in the previous year'.

He added: 'We will have to decide the level of SSA reduction grant later this year in the context of the overall local authority settlement'.
