The Local Government Association has placed a priority on finalising its staffing structure as it searches for ways to balance its budget next year.

It has became clear that the association faces a shortfall on its budget for its first year of£1.1m (LGC, 6 December).

The existing association staff of 240 have already been invited to apply for early retirement or voluntary severance.

Chief executive Brian Briscoe is already reviewing the staffing needs of the association and will report to the next meeting of the budget task group at the end of the month.
