Staffordshire CC will lose a quarter of its employees in the next year because of the creation of the new local authorities, reported the Financial Times (13 April, p5).

The council will lose about 645 administrative jobs from a workforce of 2,520 as it stops providing services to Stoke on Trent, which represents a quarter of the county's 1m population, and which will take over county responsibility for its area next April, the FT reported.
