Glasgow city council's Conservative leader John Young has compared the Labour Party's inquiry into the activities of Labour councillors to the Stalinist years in the Soviet Union.
The Glasgow Herald (p9) reports that Mr Young was speaking after leaks from the party about the fate of six councillors who are due to appear before a disciplinary tribunal at the end of the month.
Mr Young, who has been appointed to the council's standards commission, said: 'If Stalin were still alive, he would be green with envy at how the Labour party's national executive appears to operate.
'Wether or not the councillors involved are guilty or innocent is immaterial. The implication is that they are guilty and there seems to have been a string of leaks to the media on this matter. At the same time there have been indications as to what the sentences will be.'
