A high court judge has ruled that an unmarried person whose partner regularly stays the night could be forced to pay higher council tax, reported the Daily Mail (January 18, p12).

A woman who had been staying regularly overnight with her partner challenged the decision of Watford BC and a Hertfordshire valuation tribunal, that that house was her main residence for the purposes of council tax, in the high court and lost.
