Steel Action, an organisation of 36 local authorities, meets today to discuss its bids for European funding to help areas hit by steel industry closures, reports BBC Northamptonshire.
They are expected to adopt a document calling for £205m worth of funding for the regeneration of former steel areas across Europe. On past experience, the British contingent could expect to receive a share of about £80m. They are asking their local MEPs to back their bids for European funding.
Last year Steel Action was able to claim £36m from the Community Initiatives Budget. It was used for land reclamation, factory building and training.
