Stockport MBC social workers have been forced to 'give up' on a 16 year old girl who went on a crime spree after being housed by the authority.

The Daily Mail (p15) reports that the girl was housed in a pub with a boy, but after parted from him, she committed 29 offences and has been sentenced to ten months in a young offenders institution.

Pamela Shelton, assistant director of Stockport social services told the paper: 'We have never had to deal with a young woman like this before.

'We thought we had put together a workable support package last September.

'It enabled her to continue to live in Stockport, something she desperately wanted. But after four weeks her behaviour had worsened considerably.

'We simply didn't know what else we could do with her, and it grieves me to say that.'
