Stratford on Avon DC is to change the way councillors are compensated for their duties by increasing members' allowances and reducing their attendance allwances, reports The Birmingham Post (p4).
Council leader Susan Juned said the main purpose behind the move was to change the committee-oriented culture of the council and encourage members to work with other agencies and become more involved in their communities.
She said is also aimed to reduce the emphasis on meetings at the council's headquarters.
'The allowances are not going up. The money comes from the same budget but has been reallocated in a different way,' she said.
Chief executive Ian Prosser said: 'There is a great deal of pressure for change in local government and I am pleased to say that this new structure we have introduced is also very much in line with proposals put forward by the government.'
