The total capital debt outstanding at the end of 31 March 1993 for Scottish local authorities' general services capital programmes was £4.3bn, with loan charges of £652m, according to Scottish housing minister Allan Stewart (WA, 8 July, col350).

The single authority contributing the greatest amount was Strathclyde RC, with a capital debt of nearly £1.3bn and loan charges of £193m. The figures exclude domestic sewerage.

Glasgow DC has the highest housing capital debt, being just over £1bn in April 1994.
