Stricken Craven to share office

  • Comment
Financially stricken Craven District Council is to share offices with North Yorkshire County Council in Skipton in a bid to save money.

The council’s Granville Street headquarters is past its 30-year lifespan. Sharing the grade-II listed Belle Vue Mills with the county will allow Craven to scrap a separate headquarters building project.

Leader Chris Knowles-Fitton (Con) said Craven needs£2m to extend Granville Street’s use.

The two councils will bid for a£200,000 grant from the regional improvement and efficiency partnership.

Craven has been beset by financial problems and the Audit Commission said that its budget monitoring had collapsed (LGC - 11/12/08).
