Ms Hill joined the council in April and has told LGC that what impressed her most was the fact that services perform highly.
“Some councils I’ve worked in have been good at particular services. Suffolk is good across the board and it’s really solid.”
That quality stems from good leadership, and Ms Hill says she’s “incredibly lucky” to have inherited such a well-run council, with two very good chief executives before her and strong political leadership across all political groups.
But rather than being daunted by expectations, she sees her post as an opportunity.
“Suffolk is already one of the best in the country and I want to make it the best,” she says. “My theme is ‘working with partners to make Suffolk exceptional’, so I’m looking at some of the things that Suffolk is already very good at.”
