The commissioner looking into the future of local government in Suffolk, Miss Mary Leigh, has told the district and county councils that the Commission would like to see proposals for creating three or four unitary authorities in place of the present county council and seven districts, according to a statement issued by St Edmundsbury BC.

The council said during her first visit to Suffolk today Miss Leigh issued guidelines. The idea of three to four new unitary authorities fits in well with the plans drawn up by the seven districts in the county, said the statement.
