Brighton and Hove Council has joined its local health authority to appoint what is believed to be Britain's first suicide worker.

Karen Rolling will work with accident and emergency psychiatric liaison nurses to offer clients emotional support and advice. She will also direct people to other forms of community support.

The project has been funded for three years by the council, East Sussex, Brighton and Hove Health Authority and the government's Healthier Nations Fund.
