Two female social workers at Sunderland City Council have been suspended following allegations of bullying colleagues, reports The Journal.

A spokesman for the council said: 'The managers dealing with these issues take any complaint such as this seriously and we will make the proper inquiries and come to as speedy a conclusion as possible.'

The two women are described as senior but not high-ranking members of staff and work in the children's division of the social services department. None of the allegations are linked to the mistreatment of children.
