A childminder registered with Surrey CC was cleared of causing brain damage to two babies yesterday, 15 months after the High Court ruled that she was responsible for her injuries, reports the Daily Mail (p1).

A criminal court threw out the case after the prosecution admitted that it was unable to prove its case against her.

The child's mother had previously taken out a private prosecution and was awarded damages.

At that hearing the county council had been held negligent for not deregestering the childminder after the court heard of another incident of a child allegedly being harmed in her care.
