A former planning chairman suspended over allegations of corruption at Doncaster MBC has been re-selected as chairman of his ward Labour party, the Yorkshire Post reported (Jan 10, p2).
Cllr Peter Birks was stripped of his post as head of Doncaster's planning committee when multi-million pound planning irregularities surfaced last year.
But members of Bentley Central ward backed their man last week, re-selecting him as chairman unopposed.
It was alleged Cllr Birks was living in a£175,000 farmhouse bought by a developer but failed to declare the relationship when the same developer applied to build houses in the borough.
A regional Labour spokesman said Cllr Birks was entitled to stay in the party pending the results of a police inquiry into the affair, labelled 'Donnygate'.
