Residents of an expensive housing estate were dismayed to learn that the only access road to their homes has been declared off limits to them by a court order.

The Daily Mail (p31) reports that the one road which leads into the estate, built nine years ago, was adopted by Swansea city council, but it has since emerged that the road passes through a plot of land owned by a private company.

The company is demanding £2m for the land and the council refuses to pay that price. Meanwhile local residents are trapped in their own homes.

A Swansea city council spokesman told the paper: 'The matter is being dealt with by our insurers. We are obviously concerned that the company should not take any action to inconvenience the householders, who are the innocent parties in all this.'
