Kensington & Chelsea LBC chief executive Alan Taylor is retiring after 10 years in the post.

He began his local government career in 1970 as an assistant solicitor at Plymouth City Council. His first chief executive job was at Sutton LBC in 1981, when he was 36.

Mr Taylor was honorary secretary of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives from 1992 to 1995 and president in 1998-99.

Council leader Baroness Hanham said: 'Mr Taylor has been a spectacularly successful chief executive.'
