Teachers at a Manchester comprehensive staged a demonstration at the school gates in protest at the suspension of their head of religious studies, for making s joke about the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), the Guardian reports (p5).

In an internal handbook for the department of personal social education (PSE) and religious studies, David Goff wrote: 'Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach become PSE teachers, and those who can't teach PSE become Ofsted inspectors'.

Goff, who is also the National Union of Teachers representative at Wright Robinson High School, is facing a disciplinary hearing for 'serious misconduct'.
