Members of the National Union of Teachers have voted to strike to support their campaign for a four day teaching week.

The Independent (p6) reports that the teachers' decision is a sharp snub to education secretary David Blunkett, who told their conference on Monday that all industrial action was unacceptable.

Union leaders now have to hold a ballot for a week of strike action, though the executive members are questioning whether there will be sufficient grass roots support for strikes.
