A young couple have been stopped from erecting a teddy bear headstone on their baby's grave because local councillors feel it would be too 'ostentatious', reported The Daily Telegraph (Nov 25, p10).

Lance and Alison Dare, of Watchet, Somerset, who lost their nine-month-old baby Yasmine, last month after she had been born with a rare bone marrow disease, have protested to their MP, Tom King, former Conservative cabinet minister.

Mrs Dare,22, who is pregnant, said: 'Nobody said anything and suddenly they started chucking all these rules at me'.

Nigel Edwards, burial ground committee chairman, said: 'The children's cemetery would be overshadowed if people were allowed to put what they want at the head of each grave'.
