The department of the environment and the Welsh Office have announced the introduction of a temporary ban on the shooting of certain species of wildfowl during the current severe weather because of the adverse effect the weather is having on the birds' survival.

The ban, announced on Friday, is made in accordance with arrangements which have been agreed with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee and runs from 10 February until 20 February 1996 for wild ducks and geese.
