More than 70 computers worth tens of thousands of pounds have been stolen from Monmouthshire CC and Torfaen CBC, which share offices at County Hall, Cwmbran, reports The Western Mail (p5).

Torfaen's chief executive, Clive Grace, said the theft had severely disrupted work and important data had been lost for good. 'All the machines will have had hard disk work that is being processed, maybe for work on services we provide,' he said.

'Staff are working flat out to make sure that as far as the public are concerned it does not affect them.'
