Total motor traffic in the third quarter of 1996 was one per cent higher than in the third quarter of last year. This is due to a one per cent increase in car traffic.

The rate of traffic growth has declined. Growth over the last 12 months was 1.0 per cent. This compares with 2.4 per cent in 1995 and 2.9 per cent in 1994.

Minor road traffic has increased by 4 per cent between the third quarters of 1995 and 1996. There was a slight growth in motorway traffic.

Trunk road and principal road traffic fell by 1 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.
