Hambleton DC, the only Tory controlled authority in Yorkshire, is trying for a third time to fill its £56,00 a year chief executive's job, reports the Yorkshire Post (p8).

The council has dropped the consultants who advised on the previous two shortlists in favour of its own personnel officers.

Acting chief executive Pat O'Brien said he thought the salary was competitive. 'We have had some very good candidates in the previous rounds, but it's a question of the members finding someone they could work with.'
