The Liberal Democrat enquiry into racism in Tower Hamlets has demanded the expulsion of three members of the party, including a councillor, BBC Radio Four's Today programme reported this morning.

The inquiry was commissioned by Liberal Democrat leader, Paddy Ashdown after the Millwall local by election, won by a British National Party candidate, in which the Liberal Democrats were accused of putting out the racist leaflets.

Party members claim up to 10 councillors, including the borough's deputy leader, could resign in protest of the decision and split the party, Today claimed.
