Leeds City Council housing director Eric Bowen has launched an investigation into yesterday's incident in which a 74-year-old tenant was killed by a concrete slap thrown from the roof of a block of council flats.

Council housing officers joined police at the scene of the crime, The Yorkshire Post reports (p1).

Throwing objects from tower blocks had become a craze during the school holidays. The paper reports that a tenant in a neighbouring tower block was hit by a slab of concrete dropped from the top floor earlier this month.
