Lambeth LBC has been told by the district auditor to set a 'prudent budget' next year so it can tackle deficits of o25 million found in its 1995-96 accounts.

A public interest report issued by auditor Derek Elliott says accounts showed a deficit on the council's general fund of o20.1m and a deficit on the housing revenue account of o4.9m on 31 March 1996.

The report also criticises Lambeth's poor housing.
