A tiny parish council is on the verge of victory in a 'David and Goliath' style battle, the Yorkshire Post reports (p8).

England's biggest county council - North Yorkshire - has been given its marching orders by Staxton parish council, near Scarborough.

At the centre of the battle is a former sandpit which the parish council has let the county use to store road materials. But when the county fell behind with the rent, the parish council started legal action resulting in the CC being given notice to quit the site by the end of the month.
