The Lords returns from the summer recess today.

A question will be asked in the Commons on the extension of the Rough Sleepers Initiative.

The Class Size (Reduction) Bill will be introduced by Harry Cohen (Lab, Leyton).

The Lords will debate a European communities committee report on CAP reform and enlargement. A White Paper on primary health care will be published.

Written announcements are expected on: the relationship between the Welsh Office and local government; progress report on the Rural White Paper; public water resources; review of funding of supported housing; the Welsh urban investment grant scheme.

Local authority representatives will appear before the transport select committee discussing the road and bridge maintenance programme. The national heritage select committee discussing tourism will hear from the Consumers Association and secretary of state Virginia Bottomley.

Both the CBI and the TUC will address the education and employment sub committee on social costs and their effects on employment.
