Chief education advisor at Gwynedd CC has quit his job in a last ditch attempt to save the county's education support services, reports the Western Mail (p5).

Mr Alwyn Evans, 52, is to take early retirement because of LEA financial difficulties. He said he had no desire to stop working but savings need to be made.

He added that almost all Welsh LEAs in the last two years had decided not to directly replace their chief advisor when the positon was vacated.
